Etobicoke Chiro chiropractor explaining spinal health on World Chiropractic Day

Every year, on September 18, professionals worldwide mark the birthday of chiropractic by embracing the day. Celebrated as World Chiropractic Day, it is an opportunity to reflect on the incredible journey of natural healing, spinal health, and patient-oriented care.

Etobicoke Chiro is happy to participate in this celebration, not just as a day to recognise our profession, but to educate our patients and the larger Etobicoke community on the impact of chiropractic care and its valuable part in the continuum of health care.

Chiropractic Care is often misconstrued. It has a long and varied history based on natural healing and patient safety. This World Chiropractic Day, we would like to empower individuals, create access to care, and aspire for a healthier and better-informed community.

The Origins of Chiropractic Care

Daniel David Palmer brought chiropractic care into the world in 1895. He started as a magnetic healer, looking for a safer form of healing as an alternative to the traditional ineptness of medicine as it was at the time. During conventional medicine, there were many “extreme” modalities such as blood letting, vomiting, inducing diarrhoea, and creating artificial ulcers, to name a few!

Although the treatments were intended for the purpose of treating the sickness, they usually did more harm than good. Palmer’s mission was simple – restore the patient’s health and wellness naturally by finding the spinal misalignments and then enabling the body to heal itself.

The first chiropractic adjustment was done on Harvey Lillard, a janitor who had been deaf for 17 years. Palmer thought he could restore the nerves and, therefore, Lillard’s hearing by restoring his spine alignment. To Palmer’s wonder, and Lillard’s as well, after the second adjustment, Lillard’s hearing was completely restored.

This was the first vertebral subluxation and adjustment on record, and the process of chiropractic was born on September 18, 1895. To date this event is commemorated as chiropractic founders day in remembrance of the first chiropractic adjustment performed by D.D. Palmer. Every year on this day, the world celebrates the chiropractic birthday by spreading awareness of this practice.

By 1928, chiropractors around the world were celebrating Chiropractic Day by writing articles, on the radio, and performing public lectures, to highlight the philosophy of natural healing therapy and alternative medicine versus medical doctors with their drugs that produced severe side effects. Chiropractic Day began as a celebration of not only the achievements and profession of chiropractic, but also the commitment to wellness for the patient everywhere.

How Is Chiropractic Care Today

Chiropractic therapy is a natural method that holistically approaches health and wellness, treating, diagnosing, and preventing musculoskeletal disorders, especially those related to the spine. Differing from traditional treatment methods, which use medication or invasive treatments, chiropractic care looks to find the cause of pain and functions to promote proper function and the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Benefits of Chiropractic Care

Chiropractic care is generally safe for anyone, no matter their age. Patients can see and/or feel the benefits of chiropractic care, including but not limited to:

  • Relief from chronic back pain, neck tension, headache, and joint pain.
  • Adjustments can restore function and flexibility by realigning the spin.
  • Proper spinal function (and alignment) enhances communication from the brain to the body.
  • Chiropractic care relaxes the body, thus promoting better mental and physical health.
  • Regular appointments can identify and correct minor spinal misalignment before it becomes a chronic issue.

Etobicoke Chiro Is A Community-Focused Clinic

At Etobicoke Chiro, we are concerned with your spinal adjustments. We believe in education, empowerment, and community engagement. Our staff believes that educating our community about what spinal health is and how it can impact the body’s ability to heal itself is as important as the treatment we provide.

  • We treat everyone, from babies and children for developmental posture and growing pains to wellness for everyone.
  • Adults for relief from chronic back and neck pain, tension from desk jobs, and lifestyle-related discomfort.
  • Seniors for assistance with mobility, reducing stiffness, and continuing with their independence.
  • Athletes for assistance with performance, recovery, and injury prevention.

Our goal is to get all the members of our community to incorporate chiropractic care as part of their wellness routines, to support long-term health and wellness.

Special Activities For National Chiropractic Day By Etobicoke Chiro

This year, as part of World Chiropractic Day, Etobicoke Chiro is offering two initiatives to educate and engage our community. We believe these two initiatives will encourage other practitioners to come forward and promote Chiropractic among their fellow beings.

Free or Discounted Consultations

We wanted to offer first-time visitors a barrier-free experience in chiropractic care. There are so many people who do not pursue chiropractic care because they are unsure if chiropractic is effective, and because of the price. Our hope is that by offering free or discounted consultations, we will:

  • Introduce new patients to safe and effective chiropractic techniques. In fact, there is a special offer on a comprehensive assessment for new patients.
  • Identify and address misalignments before they lead to chronic pain or other problems.
  • Provide patients with tailored advice on how, through lifestyle changes, posture correction, and ongoing care, they can maintain spinal health in the future.

Whether you have pain/discomfort and want help or if you are simply attending for a wellness check, these consultations provide a risk-free opportunity to prioritise your health.

Social Media And Online Campaigns

Knowledge is power, and we truly want to share this knowledge broadly! On our social media platforms, we will be offering important content regarding:

  • Educational Posts on spinal health and wellness tips.
  • Videos discussing chiropractic techniques and what makes them effective.
  • Real patient testimonials highlighting real-world outcomes and experiences.

Through social media, we will broaden our reach, spark curiosity, and hopefully motivate individuals to proactively address spinal health.

Educating the Community And Why It Matters

World Chiropractic Day is an occasion for us to educate the community. Many individuals have musculoskeletal discomfort, but many do not know that chiropractic care offers safe, natural, and effective options.

However, with time, more people are getting to know about this preventive care practice. Research suggests that chiropractors in Ontario witnessed an increase in the number of patients (100 were recorded in 2019). With the goal of raising awareness in Etobicoke, we plan to:

  • Clear up myths and address the misperceptions (Chiropractic is just for back pain, or that it is unsafe)
  • Emphasise preventive care, just like the importance of regularly visiting your dentist or doctor, jaw pains or injury is not the time to first visit your Chiropractor.
  • Focus on whole-body health to highlight the connection between spinal health, brain and nervous system function, immunity, and overall health and vitality.

Education is the essence of our mission. We intend to help out patients and community members connect the dots regarding chiropractic, we are creating healthy habits for communities, and improving the quality of life for everyone in Etobicoke.

Celebrating Our Commitment to Patients

At Etobicoke Chiro, we pride ourselves on our commitment to patients of all walks of life and ages. Our philosophy is simple: we believe that the body is capable of incredible healing, and chiropractic care serves to help maximise that potential.

Move with more freedom and comfort. Every adjustment, consultation, and educational experience we provide is designed to have our patients:

  • To REDUCE discomfort and inflammation naturally.
  • To IMPROVE posture and overall health.
  • To IMPROVE energy, focus, and quality of life.

Our commitment to our patients extends beyond the walls of our practice. We want to motivate the community to think about wellness, provide education, and demonstrate the benefits of utilising natural, non-invasive healthcare practices as a part of a balanced lifestyle.

How You Can Take Part in World Chiropractic Day

We encourage EVERYONE in Etobicoke to celebrate World Chiropractic Day with us:

Final Thoughts

World Chiropractic Day is a time for celebration, education, and engagement. Etobicoke Chiro is happy to participate by providing free or discounted consultations as well as disseminating important information online to inspire and empower our patients and the community.

Chiropractic connection is not just a treatment but a pathway to the highest experience of health, movement, and vitality. This September 18, we encourage you to take a step towards better health by coming to Etobicoke Chiro for a chat about spinal wellness and the body’s innate power for healing.

Let us make this World Chiropractic Day not just a celebration but a movement of wellness across the Etobicoke community. Together, we can develop healthier practices, avoid pain, and move forward as a community one adjustment at a time.
